Each individual aircraft or helicopter is identified by its Construction Number, (C/N), Manufacturer Serial Number (MSN), or Werke Nummer (WN), which has to be stencilled in a metal data-plate firmly attached to the airframe. The location of this aircraft identification plate, or data-plate, differs with the aircraft type. Some aircraft and helicopters also have this number painted on the fuselage or tailboom.
